Shopping List

In the excitement of getting a new kitten sometimes we forgot a few items.  I've put together a list that I hope will be helpful in remembering the important stuff.

kitten adoption

Basics

1. Cat bed

2 .Water dishes.  Rabbit waterers also can be used for bengals to minimize their water play time. (and subsequently, your clean up time)

3. Food Dishes.  Interactive Feeders are wonderful.  I have descriptions of the Stimulo Cat Feeder and the Egg-Cersizer on the Toy Hints page.

4. Litter Box - Getting one with a lid is preferable, since bengals have a tendancy to bury their business with a lot of vigor.

5. Litter

6. Food

7. Toys - See Interactive Toys and Feeders for some good ideas

8. Collar and ID tags

9. Cloth to wipe cat down with.  Slicker brushes work ok, but since bengals are a short haired breed, a cloth with a lot of bumps on it (like an old washcloth) works better.

10. Cat Crate

11. Nail Clippers - There are many kinds of clippers out there. The scissor-style clipper is useful for novice trimmer because it has a guard to ensure that you don’t clip too much.  If you don’t know how to clip a cat’s nails, ask the breeder, vet or groomer to show you.  You can also check out this youtube video for hints: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YLDQMvskH8&feature=youtu.be

Pet Emergency Kit

1. Your kitten health card

2. Pet Reference Sheet – Have this sheet filled in and put in an easily accessible location for emergencies.

3. First Aid Kit -  For a list check out First Aid Kit for Pets

1.Scratching Post  -
Cat’s need to scratch.  They don’t do it because they hate you or dislike your furniture, it’s just important for them to do so, to stretch their muscles when they’re done sleeping.  So, if you don’t provide a scratching post for them, they’ll make one out of something you have around the house.  I’m sure you’ll both be happier making sure they scratch on the RIGHT thing.

It’s best to have a vertical one as well as a 45 degree angled scratching post.  Cats and kittens like to sleep in a ball, and they need to stretch out their back when they’re done sleeping, and they need BOTH angles to do it properly.

2. Cat Tower – The taller the better!  Bengals like tunnels, and hide-outs.  The love to look down on their world.  It doesn’t have to be expensive, they can’t read price tags.  Just make it fun!  They’ll love it.

We are proud to receive the TICA Outstanding Cattery Certificate.
